“Meet the team? I’ve already met the team, on the About Uspage!” We hear you say… Indeed, you have – but here’s your chance to find out who the At Home In Edinburgh team really are. Read on and find out who does what – as well as who was left laughing like a drain after a property drainage situation… who used to be a competitive bodybuilder… and who really is living the dream!

Rick McCann – Director

What you do day to day? Overall management of the business

Best thing about working in property management? Seeing parts and views of Edinburgh that not many people get to see

Any funny stories? We had overseas tenants move into a property. The next day they phoned to say there was a major drainage problem at the property and all the sinks and bath were backing up. On arrival at the property we found that they had all the plugs in…

Favourite part of Edinburgh? Merchiston

Favourite film? The Blues Brothers

Who would you most like to swap places with for a day? My son, to see what he actually gets up to at nursery. According to him “I did nothing” every day!

Vicky McCann – Director; Finance & Office Manager

What does the day job involve? I manage the daily bookkeeping including paying invoices, rent payments and deposit returns and I support the office wherever I can with enquiries, bookings, administration, inspections, etc.

Best thing about working in property management? The best thing is meeting so many different people from all walks of life and seeing inside the many different styles of property that they live in.

Favourite spot in Edinburgh? My favourite part of Edinburgh is Stockbridge where our office is based. I love the village feel of it and the independent shops, cafes and restaurants that are hidden around every corner. My dream is to live on Ann Street one day.

Top 3 films or books? My favourite films are Love Actually and Notting Hill and my favourite book is The Time Traveller’s Wife.

Anything else to share? The best piece of advice I was ever given… ‘you’ve got to have a dream to have a dream come true’.

Rachel Dixon – Long Term Property Manager

What you do day to day? A variety of different things, from viewings, inspections, dealing with tenants and landlords to setting up contracts and organising deposits.

Best thing about working here? There’s always something new and different, and meeting lots of different people

Favourite part of Edinburgh? I love the West End

Top 3 films? Love Actually, The Wolf of Wall Street and The Parent Trap

Who would you most like to swap places with for a day? Kate Middleton, to see how the Royals really live!

Emily Watson – Short Term Property Manager

What does the day job involve? Looking after the short term properties, landlords and guests.

Best thing about working here? Teamwork makes the dream work

Any funny stories? Rick tried to call a landlord and it went to voicemail. While he was leaving a message, the landlord called in to the office on a different line. Rick then proceeded to leave a long-winded message, explaining that as the landlord was now on the other line, she need not call back from the message he had left. It was very amusing for the rest of the office!

Favourite part of Edinburgh / street you would love to live on? Dublin Street

Three favourite books? Gone Girl – Gillian Flynn, Harry Potter, James Patterson books

Who would you most like to swap places with for a day? Emma Watson

Jackie Hodkinson – Administrator

What do you do day to day? I support the Directors with the day to day running and management of the office. I also support the property managers, covering a number of their tasks.

What’s the best thing about working here? The best thing about working for AHIE is the friendly and supportive working environment where you are respected and given the autonomy to make professional decisions. Having only been working in property management for six months, no two days are the same, so I am constantly learning and enjoying every challenge.

If you could live anywhere in Edinburgh, where would it be? I’d love to live in the New Town on Heriot Row or around the Great King Street area!

Favourite films? The Godfather trilogy

What do you do in your free time? When I’m not at work, you will find me either out on a long run or pumping iron in the gym. In my younger days I was a competitive bodybuilder so keeping in shape is important for both body and soul.
